Grok Voice 3.0 Is Out: $0.08 a Minute, #1 on Voice AI Index
Grok Voice 3.0 is out, and its maker says it is now the smartest speech-to-speech AI you can build on, at $0.08 a minute. SpaceXSI, the Elon Musk-led company behind Grok that most people still know as xAI, announced the model on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, a little after 1 p.m. in New York. It ranks first on Artificial Analysis' independent Speech to Speech Index, it keeps the same price as the previous version, and the company says it is already handling millions of conversations a day in Tesla cars and Starlink call centers.
What happened
In a blog post titled “Introducing Grok Voice 3.0”, the company called the release “the world’s most intelligent speech-to-speech model.” A speech-to-speech model listens to a caller and talks back directly, without a separate transcription step and a separate voice step. The company says Grok Voice 3.0 sets a new record for resolving customer support calls, answers in under one second, and costs less to run than other frontier voice models. The official @SpaceXSI account on X posted the news at 17:04 UTC (1:04 p.m. Eastern), adding that the model is available today in the API and in its Voice Agent Builder.
Developers do not need to change anything to try it. According to the announcement, apps that call the grok-voice-latest model name have already been switched to the new version automatically. The company’s API pricing page now lists grok-voice-3.0 at $0.08 per minute, or $4.80 per hour, and marks the older grok-voice-2.0 as deprecated. Unite.AI also reported the launch on Wednesday and describes the same price, benchmarks and rollout.

Key details
Price and availability
- $0.08 per minute ($4.80 per hour): the same price as Grok Voice 2.0, according to both the blog post and the pricing page.
- Text input: the pricing page lists an extra $0.004 per text input for speech-to-speech sessions.
- Where to get it: the Voice Agent API and the Voice Agent Builder. The post adds that the model also powers voice mode in Grok Bot, the company’s AI agent product.
- Automatic upgrade: agents pointed at grok-voice-latest were moved to version 3.0 with no code changes needed.
The benchmark numbers
The company cites testing by Artificial Analysis dated October 13, 2026. We checked the firm’s public speech-to-speech leaderboard, and the headline numbers match:
- Speech to Speech Index: 86.9, the highest score on the board, ahead of OpenAI’s GPT-Live-1 (Astra, medium) at 83.2, Google’s Gemini 3.8 Live with extended thinking at 82.6 and Grok Voice 2.0 at 81.3.
- Task success rate: 94.8%, up slightly from 94.6% for version 2.0.
- Conversation flow: 97.0% on Full Duplex Bench, which tests how well a model handles pauses, turn-taking and interruptions.
- Customer-support test (τ-Voice): 71.6%. That is just behind GPT-Live-1 (Astra) at 74.5%, but the company says it gets there with 40% lower latency. On the leaderboard, Grok Voice 3.0’s time to first audio is 0.81 seconds versus 1.34 seconds for GPT-Live-1 (Astra).
- Enterprise test: on ServiceNow’s EVA-Bench, the company says the model scored the highest accuracy, at 74%.
Already in real use
- Tesla cars: the company says Grok Voice 3.0 handles millions of conversations a day in Tesla vehicles. Drivers can check a calendar or answer an email, or hand off bigger jobs such as ordering a coffee or booking dinner, hands-free.
- Starlink support: Starlink call centers use Grok Voice to answer 20,000 calls a day in several languages. About 70% are resolved with no human involved, and one in four sales calls ends in a purchase before the caller hangs up, the company says.
- One agent, many jobs: a single Grok Voice 3.0 agent at Starlink verifies customers, troubleshoots hardware, issues credits and ships replacement equipment, according to the post.
Why it matters
- Voice is the next battleground for AI agents. Much of this month’s AI launch news, such as Google’s Gemini 4 Argon, has centered on text and coding models. Grok Voice 3.0 is aimed squarely at phone lines and help desks, where a model has to listen, look things up with tools and answer before the caller gets impatient. ServiceNow’s Nitin Aggarwal said in the announcement that the model “pairs top accuracy with a natural, responsive conversation, setting a new standard for what enterprises can expect from AI on the front line of customer service.”
- Better results at the same price. Keeping the $0.08 rate means current customers get the upgrade with no price increase. Unite.AI, reading the cost chart in the announcement, reports an average cost per task of $0.025 for Grok Voice 3.0, compared with $0.030 for GPT-Live-1 (Astra, medium) and $0.055 for GPT-Realtime-2.1 (High).
- It is not the best at everything. The overall index lead is real, but the same leaderboard shows other models ahead in some categories. StepAudio 3 Realtime and two Qwen models score higher on speech reasoning, and several models answer faster. Grok Voice 3.0’s 0.81-second time to first audio is actually a little slower than Grok Voice 2.0’s 0.70 seconds.
- A new name on an old brand. According to Fox Business, SpaceX acquired xAI in July, creating SpaceXAI, and Musk said on October 4 that the unit would be renamed SpaceXSI. TeslaNorth reported that the company’s X account switched to @SpaceXSI around October 10. The website is still x.ai and the product is still called Grok.
What's next
Most of the impressive numbers come from the company itself or from tests it chose to cite, so independent hands-on testing will matter. Developers building phone agents will want to see how Grok Voice 3.0 handles heavy accents, noisy lines and long calls outside benchmark conditions, and whether the sub-second response time holds up under load. Artificial Analysis says its leaderboard is updated regularly, so the ranking could shift as OpenAI, Google and others ship new voice models.
There are also open questions about the wider rollout. The announcement focuses on the API and does not list the languages the model supports, any limits on call length, or a timeline for shutting down the deprecated Grok Voice 2.0. The company’s voice documentation says audio sent to its voice APIs is processed in real time and never stored or used for training, a claim enterprises will likely want written into their contracts. We will update this story as more details arrive.
FAQ
What is Grok Voice 3.0?
Grok Voice 3.0 is a speech-to-speech AI model from SpaceXSI, the company formerly known as xAI. It listens and speaks directly in real time and is built for voice agents such as customer support lines. It launched on October 14, 2026, and the company calls it the world’s most intelligent speech-to-speech model.
How much does Grok Voice 3.0 cost?
It costs $0.08 per minute of audio, or $4.80 per hour, through the company’s Voice Agent API. That is the same price as Grok Voice 2.0. The pricing page also lists $0.004 per text input in speech-to-speech sessions.
Is Grok Voice 3.0 better than OpenAI’s and Google’s voice models?
On Artificial Analysis’ overall Speech to Speech Index, yes: it scores 86.9, ahead of GPT-Live-1 (Astra, medium) at 83.2 and Gemini 3.8 Live with extended thinking at 82.6. But GPT-Live-1 scores higher on the τ-Voice customer-support test, and some other models lead on speech reasoning and speed, so the best choice depends on the job.
